This download is a goodie for icon lovers, or those who adorn their desktop and
Explorer with fanciful little graphics. It allows you to take
an image and convert into the ICO format. Any to Icon supports
Bitmap, JPEG, GIF and WMF graphics as well as desktop cursors.
For example, you can use it to create icons from images you've
found on the Web, or family photos you digitized with a
scanner. By copying our Rocket graphic and running it through
the program, you could have a cool shortcut to this site! In
addition, Any to Icon can extract icon files from folders and
libraries.
Any to Icon uses a step-by-step approach for converting
your images into icons. You simply drag and drop entire
folders or files onto the program's interface, or add items
via the file mini-browser that includes a preview window. You
can then choose a size for your output, ranging from 16x16 to
64x64, including an option to have icons shrunk or zoomed to
fit. Because the program features selectable color properties,
your icons may be rendered in True, 24-bit color. Any to Icon
also lets you add transparency to icons or any background
color from the palette.
The only drawback of this program is that it doesn't offer
a preview of your icon during the editing process. It may
require some trial-and-error before you start pumping out high
quality icons. This shareware version is fully functional, but
expires after 30 uses.
